Dos and Don'ts for Packing a C-Section Hospital Bag

What to pack

  • A cozy blanket, hospital blankets are so thin so packing a warm blanket will help not have so many layers. You should only need a twin or queen size at the most, it is it too long it will drag on the hospital floor and be more of a hassle

  • Crocs- These were the best thing when it came to trying to not overpack. They can be used as shower shoes and slippers to walk around the hospital room! Plus after my C-section my feet were SO swollen, Crocs were the only thing that fit my feet.

  • Nightgowns- I loved my button down nightgown, I did bring other pajamas but didn't end up wearing them because it was uncomfortable with my incision. They were perfect for breastfeeding and overall comfort.

  • Fan- After birth, you normally get awful hot flashes so the portable fan I could attach to my hospital bed was perfect!

  • Long chargers- plugs are not in the most convenient spot in hospital rooms so these were a life saver

  • Diapers for mom- Now this one is all about personal preference. Even though you are having a C-section, you will still bleed for 4-6 week. I didn't think the underwear and pads the hospital gave me were bad at all. And I didn't pack any postpartum stuff with me. But when i got home the best thing was just getting woman's diapers instead of messing with underwear and pads.

  • Toiletries/Toiletry bag- Toothbrush/toothpaste, Dry Shampoo, Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, Skincare, hair ties and Chapstick are things I included in my toiletry bag that I actually used!

  • Nipple Shields- If you are planning to breastfeed, this is my number one recommendation! I didn't buy these at first because I didn't want to waste the money if they didn't work. I was in so much pain I ended up ordering them about a week postpartum and these things absolutely saved my life during my breastfeeding journey.

  • Nursing bras- Pretty self explanatory, i found the momcozy bra was the most comfortable to wear around the house and supportive enough to go out with.

  • Belly Band- The hospital will give you a belly band but the one I bought was so much easier to put on. The band they give you in the hospital requires someone to help you put it on and is not the most comfortable on the edges. It is 100% better to have your own since it is recommended to wear it for a while!

  • Compression Socks- Again your feet and legs will SWELL up, even more than pregnancy. I didn't bring compression socks because I had no idea, my husband ended up buying some for the hospital gift shop but they were $50! Definitely bring your own!

What not to pack

  • Fluffy rob- I packed mine and never wore it! I lived in my long sleeve nightgown

  • Water Bottle- you will definitely need a water bottle with a straw for postpartum but the hospital provided one!

  • Too Many Shoes- Your feet will be so swollen that you can't fit into them anyways!

  • Diapers and wipes for baby- The hospital provides all of that for baby

  • Breast Pump- The hospital will provide you with a breast pump if you choose to pump

  • Nipple Cream- The Hospital will provide it and it is honestly good quality! My hospital provided Medela brand nipple cream.

  • Towels- The hospital will provide towels for showering!

  • Formula- If you are choosing to formula feed, the hospital will provide premixed formula.
